Primary responsibilities of the candidate include, but are not limited to:

- Integrate data from population-scale genetic and genomic cohorts as well as diverse types of genetic and non-genetic biomedical data including but not limited to gene expression, eQTL, pQTL, and epigenetics to identify causal genetic targets for immunoncology applications or immunological diseases.

- Formulate and initiate functional validation studies of immunological targets in collaboration with experimental scientists and clinical researchers.

- Work with cross-functional teams within and outside GpGx including disease area biologists, pharmacologists, and chemists, for development of immunology targets across the early discovery pipeline.

- Display strong collaboration and communication skills to interface effectively with a wide range of subject matter experts in Merck GpGx, Discovery, and Clinical groups, as well as external communities.

Qualifications

Education:

- PhD, MD, or MD/PhD

Required:

- Proven track record and understanding of human genetics and genomics

- Academic or industry postdoctoral experience preferably in immunobiology, oncology, genetics, immunological diseases, or a related field.

- Functional understanding of immune biology in oncology and/or immune disease

- Strong understanding of clinical/pathobiological functional readouts in immune diseases or immune cell biology

- Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

Preferred :

- Background in statistical analysis of functional biology and/or pharmacogenomics.

- Insights into experimental immunobiology and validation experiments with disease-relevant in-vitro or in-vivo immune model systems.

- Effective contributions to collaborative projects involving cross-disciplinary and global teams.

Your role at Merck is integral to helping the world meet new breakthroughs that affect generations to come, and we’re counting on your skills and inventiveness to help make meaningful contributions to global medical advancement. At Merck, we’re inventing for life.
