Associate Project Leader R&D (Bacterial Vaccines Companion Animals)
Innovative talent with a demonstrated ability to master new research areas and techniques

MSD is a leading global biopharmaceutical company that has been developing innovative products in the form of drugs and vaccines for many of the world's most challenging diseases for more than a hundred years. MSD Animal Health is the global animal health division of MSD. MSD Animal Health is committed to protecting and improving animal health, welfare and performance. In close cooperation with veterinarians, farmers, pet owners and governments, we develop an unrivaled range of veterinary pharmaceutical products, vaccines, solutions and services for health management. MSD Animal Health is in a solid growth phase with significant investments in people and resources.

With more than 200 employees, the R&D division is involved in the (further) development and registration of vaccines and pharmaceuticals for animals. The R&D Companion Animals (CA) department, with around 20 employees, deals with the development and registration of vaccines for dogs, cats, horses and rabbits. To strengthen this team, we are currently recruiting an Associate Project Leader R&D (Bacterial Vaccines Companion Animals).

In this position you will ultimately be responsible for the project-based development and refinement of bacterial CA vaccines with the aim of increasing the product range of MSD Animal Health. You will lead the projects assigned to you from pre-development to licensing whereby you lead and coordinate the multidisciplinary project team, but also make a substantial scientific contribution to the actual research and development. You will be conducting feasibility studies by organizing and executing laboratory trials and determination of safety and efficacy of the vaccine candidate. Of course, you make sure all study results are reported internally and as required publish and present technical papers to internal and external audiences. Furthermore, you will also develop new production processes or test methods together with specialists in these fields. This role demands close cooperation with other research groups, Manufacturing, Quality Control, Regulatory Affairs and Global Marketing. You report to a seasoned
Project Leader who will offer you close guidance and support.

We are looking for candidates who combine a firm scientific background with outstanding communication, documentation and project management skills. Candidates who know how to connect and convince easily within a diversity of cultures and interests without losing touch with company strategy. You also bring:

  • A completed PhD program in life sciences (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology) or a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
  • Work experience in the bacteriology and molecular biology
  • Excellent command of the English language, oral and written
  • Eligible to work in The Netherlands

You start to act as a generalist with increasing responsibilities. At first, we will offer you the opportunity to master all MSD and matter specific laboratory techniques. Depending on your personal development you will gradually gain more responsibility to the point you will lead and execute your own development projects. This role offers full responsibility through combining project management with scientific excellence.  The team is relatively new, diverse and complementary with an open and informal working atmosphere.

Choosing MSD Animal Health means choosing the forerunner in the development of innovative veterinary medicines. It also means choosing an organization where (continued) growth is stimulated. This role also offers enough opportunities for personal growth and development. Growth in complexity, into a managerial role or to other key positions in the organization. Excellent primary and secondary employment conditions, including 35.5 holidays, a fixed year-end bonus of 3%, an attractive pension scheme, travel allowance and an MSD Incentive Plan complete the offer.
