As a scientist you will be working in the Ruminants Biologicals R&D Department. The department has global responsibility for the development of new vaccines for large and small ruminants with a primary focus on cattle. The team is primarily based in Europe and in the US and collaborates with the global R&D network of MSD Animal Health to develop and register new Ruminants vaccines in all markets of interest.

The position is located in Boxmeer, The Netherlands, and will report to one of the Project Leaders of the team.

Your key responsibilities comprise:

- The organization, execution and reporting of (animal) experiments and departmental activities under the supervision of responsible project leader(s) or study supervisor(s).

- Growth, quantification and characterization of pathogens (viruses, bacteria and/or protozoa) using in-vitro and in-vivo test systems.

- Preparation of materials for in-vitro and in-vivo testing.

- Development of new in-vitro or in-vivo test methods or production processes for new or existing vaccines

- Maintaining contacts with involved departments (e.g. production, quality, animal research, regulatory affair departments)

- Running experiments and aspects of department procedures according to GLP and SHE compliance requirements. May act as study supervisor or study director in GLP studies.

- Interacting closely with fellow scientists within own and other departments.

- Supporting training of trainees and new employees within area of expertise


Desired skills & experience

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in science

- With at least 5 year experience in development projects

- Experience in laboratory techniques associated within the areas of virology, bacteriology, cell culture. Experience with molecular techniques and/or immunological techniques would be a plus.

- Demonstrated ability to learn new skills and techniques in a rapidly changing environment

- Experience with and proactive approach to GLP and SHE requirements.

- Art9 certification (Laboratory Animal Sciences) would be a plus

- An adequate level of English (written and spoken) is necessary.

- Good communication and documentation skills.
