The department
Global Engineering Solutions (GES) is organized in a Technology organization (responsible for the design of projects) and a Delivery organization (responsible for the realization of projects). The Technology Center Animal Health, based in Boxmeer, is responsible for the design, start up and qualification of process systems and installations for critical investment projects in the worldwide Animal Health network, both remotely as well as on site. The GES cEU Delivery organization supports the delivery of projects to all MSD sites on the continent of Europe Human Health as well as Animal Health. With a mixture of experienced project managers, project engineers, cost controllers, schedulers and estimators in co-operation with external partners, interesting projects in a wide range will be managed together with our Technology colleagues from Front-end loading till Commissioning, Qualification and handover.

The position
Within the technology department we have a job opening for a Trainee Process Engineering. The trainee will follow the GES Development program. According to this program, the trainee will get approx. 4 different positions in a timeframe of 2 years, i.e. process engineering, project design management, project management and project controls. At least one of these assignments is located on one of the Animal Health sites globally, or in the GES office in West Point (US). After this 2 year period there will be an evaluation.

The trainee process engineering will report to the Associate Director Engineering in the GES organisation. He/ she will be assigned in the following positions, under the direct guidance of a Lead Engineer and will be responsible for:

Process Engineering

  • Designs in cooperation with suppliers critical process systems;

  • Assures compliance of the design to the GMP and MSD guidelines and standards;

  • Takes part in design reviews (GMP, HAZOP etc);

  • Is part of the commissioning and qualification team responsible for the startup of the system.

Project Design Management

  • Assists the PDM in the management of the Conceptual Design Phase of a project;

  • Prepares parts of the Conceptual Design Report;

  • Assists in managing the different partners and stakeholders in the Conceptual Design Phase.

Project Management

  • Assists the Project Manager in managing the detailed design, construction and commissioning and qualification of a project;

  • Assists in planning and cost control of a project.

Project Controls

  • Assists in estimating of projects;

  • Assists in control functions of projects (time control, resource management).

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in process engineering or applicable technical degree (Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering);

  • At least five years of experience in an engineering and/ or manufacturing field;

  • Ability to anticipate and solve problems;

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to understand automated systems;

  • Ability and willingness to search out for and implement/ realize own business improvements;

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities;

  • Teamplayer;

  • Exhibiting sound leadership and interpersonal skills;

  • Willingness to travel (approx. 25 %) and willingness to stay abroad for an extended period (approx. 6 months);

  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English, Dutch and/or German preferred.
