The Improvement Engineer will be a key member of the Engineering/Maintenance/Operations Team working on both equipment and operational improvement projects. The scope of the project teams activities are to improve the performance of manufacturing activities in MSD Carlow through ensuring reliable processes, equipment and elimination of risk to the business, whilst all the time ensuring compliance with quality & safety requirements.

The Improvement Engineer’s main responsibilities are: 

  • Lead and manage Capital and Expense Projects to introduce new equipment to the site.
  • Manage the introduction of new processes or process changes on behalf of the operations team to ensure all deliverables are completed on schedule.
  • Execute project plans in alignment with site requirements to deliver projects on time and budget.
  • Lead complex multifunctional root cause analysis of system, process and equipment failures including, substandard equipment performance, using standard tools and methods, to resolve machine and system issues. Oversee and implement subsequent corrective action, through the change management system.
  • Complete review, approval and close out of technical documentation including automation changes controls, automations detailed design documents, validation protocols and site standard SOP’s, in line with site standard approval process;
  • Identify, troubleshoot, investigate and remedy process and equipment issues and incidents, using Lean Six Sigma tools as applicable.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects through the identification of CAPAs from system failure investigations and investigation reports.
  • Work collaboratively to drive a safe and compliant culture in Carlow.
  • May be required to perform other duties as required by the business



Bachelors Degree or higher preferred; ideally in Engineering or other Technical discipline

  • 8+ years of related work experience in a Medical or Pharma. manufacturing environment.
  • Applicant should have previously demonstrated strong team and communication skills, flexibility, and motivation, with a strong emphasis around safety and compliance practices.
  • Applicants should actively support, participate and embrace an empowered team culture.
  • An openness to new technologies and ability to follow-up on these independently.
  • A motivated individual with strong can-do attitude.
  • Ability to lead, communicate and appropriately influence project team members.
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with staff at all levels in the organisation.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal across all management levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and job related computer applications required.
