The latest addition to the MSD Ireland family is MSD Biotech, Dublin. The site will play a pivotal role in the manufacture of MSD’s biologics-based medicines, including in the area of immuno-oncology, and will expand MSD’s current internal network of biologics drug substance manufacturing plants when full manufacturing operations begin in 2021.

MSD Biotech Dublin, will be MSD’s first ever Large-Scale Mammalian-Based Drug Substance Facility, with the mission and ambition to manufacture breakthrough medicines from Ireland for patients around the world.

This facility will be a significant supplier of drug substances for one of MSD’s key treatments and will also be critical in the future supply of new biotechnology products to its global network.


The Equipment Safety Engineer will be responsible for supporting the start-up of MSD Biotech Dublin. They will guide efforts to ensure compliance of Maintenance Programs with EHS Regulations, Local and Corporate Standards. Working with our Engineering Team and with other Site Groups in the development of our site Asset Management Programs they will identify They will also measure asset performance and develop cross functional forums to review and analysis data and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

• Ensure compliance to all Safety, regulatory GMP and Environmental requirements.
• Act as site point of contact for process safety and machinery compliance requests/queries.
• Set up systems on-site that ensure that on-site processes, systems and procedures ensure compliance to the corporate standards.
• Engage with above site stakeholders to understand the global Engineering and EHS standards associated with Process Safety and Equipment / Machinery Safety.
• Develop and Deliver a site plan ensuring site compliance with the global standards.
• Ensure that all relevant documentation is to the required standard and filed appropriately for reference.
• Performing and facilitating Failure Mode Effect Analysis on critical assets.
• Support Investigations or deviations to find root cause and implement effective Corrective and Preventative Actions.
• Complete audits, manage routine inspections and recommended findings.
• Coach, mentor and provide technical training to colleagues on safety engineering topics.
• Works with Engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations.
• Ensure that all asset changes and projects have the correct assessments to ensure compliance ahead of becoming operational.
• Participates in the development of design and installation specifications along with commissioning plans.
• Participates in the development of criteria for and evaluation of equipment and technical MRO suppliers and technical maintenance service providers. Develops acceptance tests and inspection criteria.
• Participates in the final check out of new installations.
• Provides input to Risk Management and Business Continuity Plans that will anticipate safety related risks that could adversely impact plant operation.
• Provides technical support to operations, maintenance management and technical personnel.
• Develop and present Performance Metrics, set up regular cross functional reviews of initiatives.


Will report to Engineering - Centre of Excellence Lead.


• Engineering qualification with 4+ years’ experience, some of which needs to be in safety/compliance role.


• Knowledge of Process Safety Management Requirements, Local Health and Safety legislation and Industry Best Practices.
• Knowledgeable of asset inspection safety requirements.
• Experience of dealing with regulatory agencies and audits.
• Knowledge of Engineering safety practices, i.e. risk assessments and controls.
• Experience of problem solving and continuous improvement.
• Working knowledge of SAP or another Maintenance Management System.
• Experience in facilitation of Design Reviews, FMEA Studies, Safety Reviews.

• Excellent organising, planning skills, and communication skills.
• High level of attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a cross functional collaborative environment.
• Comfortable providing guidance to others.
• Works with flexibility to react to changing business needs.

• A Level 8 qualification in engineering with evidence of continuous professional development.
