The latest addition to the MSD Ireland family is MSD Biotech, Dublin. The site will play a pivotal role in the manufacture of MSD’s biologics-based medicines, including in the area of immuno-oncology, and will expand MSD’s current internal network of biologics drug substance manufacturing plants when full manufacturing operations begin in 2021.

MSD Biotech Dublin, will be MSD’s first ever Large-Scale Mammalian-Based Drug Substance Facility, with the mission and ambition to manufacture breakthrough medicines from Ireland for patients around the world.

This facility will be a significant supplier of drug substances for one of MSD’s key treatments and will also be critical in the future supply of new biotechnology products to its global network.


The Senior Engineering Technician will work across the site supporting Engineering activities which could include execution of predictive, preventative and reactive maintenance activities to ensure the site operations are safe and reliable. The role will initially involving supporting project activities, install of equipment and start up and will move to a sustaining the site operations and maintenance.


  • Participating in project activities which could include design reviews, factory / Site acceptance testing, installation and commissioning support.

  • Ensuring that equipment failures or issues are responded to promptly and appropriately in a cross functional environment. Providing guidance and solutions for preventative action where required.

  • Identifying activities and spare parts for planned activities including the development of procedures and training material.

  • Alarm monitoring, response and resolution.

  • Executing planned routines including predictive, preventative and calibration activities.

  • Ensuring all necessary documentation is completed in a compliant manner and asset management data is captured accurately.

  • Provide clear and concise written and verbal handovers to colleagues.

  • Supporting and manage vendors when on site.

  • Supporting development of training information, cross train colleagues.

  • Assisting colleagues and other functions with tasks – i.e. set-up, sampling, cleaning validation activities.

  • Working in cross functional teams where Operational Excellence techniques are used to optimise processes.

  • Ensuring the site is audit ready at all times, house-keeping standards are always adhered to, training completed on time.

Due to the nature of operations, shift work will be required as the site moves into 24/7 mode of operations.


Reports to Senior Maintenance Specialist or Senior Engineer




  • At least 8 years of experience working in biologics / pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in an engineering, maintenance or utilities role.


  • A compliance mindset for Safety and Quality standards, regulation and practices.

  • Expertise high level of attention to detail in following procedures

  • Strong problem solving ability and adhere to scheduled timelines

  • Evidence of multi-skill experience and work in an automated environment


  • Verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work in a cross functional collaborative environment

  • Ability to work independently and also as part of a team


  • At minimum Level 6 Electrical, Instrumentation or Mechanical related qualification.

  • Evidence of Continuous Profession Development

  • Desirable – predictive technology experience
