This is position is part of the Cost of Sales and Inventory (COSI) organization supporting all regions, which will optimize and improve end to end activities from actual occurrence of a financial result till consolidation level in HQ. This position will be responsible for accurately performing accounting activities in relationship to Discards & IQV and Inventory by informing business partners of actual results from an end to end perspective.


This position will directly report into the Ass. Dir. Inventory position.


Description of the tasks, competences and responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that appropriate and adequate internal controls are in place in accordance with corporate procedures. To include liaising with internal and external audit teams

  • Responsible for performing accounting activities for IQV from and in line with US GAAP rules and according to MSD internal reporting design from end to end perspective

  • Review of accounting discards and accurate reporting within MSD’s internal reporting design for all regions

  • Responsible for alignment of discard’s P&L accounts with local repository on market and divisional level

  • Responsible for alignment of IQV balance account with local repository TC12 reserves per entity

  • Acting as a first point of contact for external and internal auditors in relation to Discards & IQV

  • Responsible for maintaining the Discards & IQV database for all regions

  • Support roll out of harmonized and centralized processes, tools, and activities in line with MSD’s policies and procedures

  • Participate in regional Governance meeting and provide pro-active feedback to stakeholders

  • Perform ad-hoc consolidation analysis to support business decisions

  • Responsible to identify and follow up on process improvement from an End to End scenario

  • Maintaining and reporting performance metrics/ KPI’s

  • Maintaining and reconciling inventory account balances related to COSI processes between the General Ledger and SAP/WFRS to ensure alignment for all regions. This also includes ongoing process and tool development

  • Responsible for optimizing IQV reporting and analysis of related data

  • Provide accurate and timely financial month-end results to business partners and customers

  • Responsible to provide COSI analysts estimated Discard & IQV numbers on a monthly basis

  • Responsible to provide End to End activities for a number of HH branches


  • Technologies: Previous practical experience of preparing accounts in accordance with US GAAP
    Good SAP and Microsoft Office (Excel) knowledge
    LR/GR knowledge is a plus

  • Expert knowledge: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory
    Able to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders

  • Methods: Have the ability to robustly challenge decisions with reasoned financial justification
    Able to see the wider picture and how decisions could affect the site, region, MMD, HH


  • Education: University or Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics, Finance or Accountancy

  • Work Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience in finance

  • Project experience: Knowledge and experience with Lean Six Sigma - minimal Yellow belt

About the department:
The COSI department is part of new global financial group whereby several departments have been merged. (Regional Costing CoE’s, intercompany FSC team, intercompany pricing and global consolidation group). The COSI team will be based in Haarlem and will exist of ~40FTE’s.
This team will be responsible to perform end to end activities from actual transactional occurrence of a financial result till consolidation level in HQ. These activities will be performed for +/-85 branches/ entities (and increasing) for all regions, which will roll up directly into divisional and global results. On a monthly basis actual results will be provided to business partners with high level commentary and explanations, so that adequate business decisions can be made, if required. Financial figures will be treated with sensitivity.
Further this team, as business process owner, will look for synergies and business processes changes with business partners to optimize and improve systems and processes in line with MSD‘s internal policies and procedures but also external, US GAAP and IFRS.
