We are looking for an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Associate Director for a recently acquisitioned site. Building, principle utilities and systems are existing and in the next 4-5 years innovative and state-of-the-art biological processes and processing equipment will be installed.

Reporting to the Director EHS, the Associate Director will be responsible for specific environmental health and safety programs and compliance for the Biologics manufacturing site Krems, Austria. Responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following main tasks:



  • Manage site EHS programs, including routine assessments, facilitating corrective measures as necessary and anticipating program needs based on relevant business conditions and developments.

  • Ensure facility compliance with local, Austrian, EU and corporate standards and guidelines.

  • Ensure an effective implementation and maintenance of tailored site-level EHS programs including the recognition and reporting of any potential deficient situations/conditions with appropriate corrective actions.

  • Interact and communicate with corporate and site EHS, Compliance, Quality Assurances, Technical Services, Engineering, Manufacturing, Research & Development and Distribution representatives.

  • Work with local, country, and corporate representatives in conducting and completing audits and corrective actions.

  • Ensure the improvement and implementation of site-specific environmental, health and safety training to meet facility needs; including regulatory and best management practices.

  • Conduct proper investigations to determine root cause for all facility incidents, spills, accidents, near misses, and injuries to prevent recurrence. 

  • Coordinate proper handling and disposition of facility waste materials.

  • Advise management on upcoming environmental, health and safety regulations.
Qualifications

Minimum requirements:



  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental or safety related technical discipline. Masters or MBA desirable.

  • 5-8 years of experience in a similar role within a highly regulated manufacturing environment, preferably in Pharmaceuticals, Animal Health, Medical Devices or Food Technology

  • Clear and recognizable understanding of the processes, equipment and methods associated with Biologics and Sterile manufacturing

  • Previous experience in leading teams with and/or without managerial responsibility

  • Documented knowledge of EU and Austrian EHS laws and regulatory framework

  • Environmental expertise with a specific focus on EU/Austrian regulations

  • Pronounced diplomacy with strong negotiation skills; demonstrated ability to influence management

  • Proven ability to develop sustainable cooperative professional relationships on all levels of the organization

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

  • High ethical standards, being a role model of business compliance and integrity

  • Proven ability to prioritize, focus on and obtain business results 

  • Demonstrated analytical and logical problem solving abilities

  • Flexibility to perform multiple, complex tasks simultaneously to efficiently support the business

  • Fluency in written and spoken German and English

Preferred Experience and Skills:



  • Relevant professional certification(s)

  • Lean/Six Sigma experience desirable

  • Vision and sound judgment; ability to develop strategy and execute tactically

  • Robust skills interpreting and applying regulatory frameworks such as EU OSHA, OHSAS 18000, EPA, ISO, NFPA, GMP

  • Robust skills interpreting and applying regulatory frameworks

  • Strong leadership and change execution skills

The minimum annual salary for this position is EUR 46’200 and varies according to the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
