The Payroll Lead Austria will be responsible for managing the payroll function for the three legal entities of MSD in Austria: our local Commerical Human Health organization and the Animal Health manufacturing sites in Krems and Vienna (Intervet). The main office will be located in Vienna, with regular travel of approx. 20% of the time to the other sites.



Reporting to directly the Regional HR Operations/Payroll Lead EMEA, you will contribute to the definition of a regional Payroll strategy, re-shaping the structure of the function and the way Payroll services are delivered across all sites. Furthermore, you will play an important role in providing significant value to the entire Austrian organization by ensuring state-of-the-art Payroll processing, operations excellence, regulatory compliance, while acting as a liaison to multiple internal stakeholders as well as HR, Finance and Treasury.


Primary daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



  • Define and lead consistent and compliant delivery of Payroll services at all sites; address performance issues through effective coaching and make recommendations for onsite staff and/or Payroll services

  • Ensure accuracy and productivity of the payroll functions including: payroll vendor relations, internal control monitoring, developing and maintaining high quality of efficiency standards

  • Ensure adaption and local implementation of the regional Payroll strategy in close alignment with the EMEA HR Operations/Payroll Lead

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of payroll policies, procedures and internal controls

  • Prepare the Payroll journals

  • Respond to all internal and external inquiries on payroll related issues, social insurance and taxation

  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close, including the account reconciliations of payroll related balances

  • Prepare periodic metrics reports regarding issues such as department efficiency and volumes; as well as contribute to the development and management of a Payroll dashboard

  • Oversee preparation of all external and internal audit deliverables for areas of responsibility
Qualifications

 



  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or Accounting or another relevant payroll qualification; in lieu of a degree, the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability

  • 5-10 years of experience in a multinational business environment with focus on Payroll for multiple entities

  • Knowledge of all aspects in payroll, including equity based compensation, Expats¬-, Commuters- and employee share purchase plans

  • Outstanding with standard concepts, practices and procedures in the Accounting and Payroll field

  • Demonstrated technical expertise on the automated systems and processes in designated areas of responsibility

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with business and support teams for system enhancements and production issues

  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Excel features and formulas

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work

  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality, strong personal integrity

  • Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate relevant information to all levels of the organization

  • Fluency German and English, both verbal and written

The minimum annual salary for this position is EUR 56’000 and varies according to the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
