Position Overview
Is the key scientific expert for providing high level scientific support for internal and external customers for anesthesiology therapeutic area and products: Bridion/Esmeron (sugammadex/rocuronium bromide). Guarantees the scientific credibility of all the information provided by the company. Supports the product(s) as Brand of Choice through medical communications, scientific support for promotional activities and other related medical activities including, but not limited to studies, trainings and medical information


Key Result Areas & Tasks
Customer relations 

  • Is responsible to develop and follow up a scientific leader (SL) engagement plan. 

  • Develops, maintains and extends (long-term) contacts with national experts (scientific leaders) and medical professionals in the therapeutic area assigned (Anesthesiology). 

  • Acts as medical ambassador for the company, externally and internally (relations with clinical research and other relevant departments, RDMA & GMA). 

  • Is recognized as the scientific expert of sugammadex and therapeutic area assigned (anesthesiology) by acting as speaker and/or discussant in external meetings

Medical functional expertise: 

  • Builds and maintains expertise and knowledge of scientific gaps on the products: Bridion/Esmeron and anesthesiology therapy area. 

  • Builds and maintains expertise on relevant areas such as rules and regulations on promotional materials. 

  • Works closely with the clinical research department to identify potential investigators for participation in MRL (GCTO) studies. 

  • Monitors the progression/milestones of investigator initiated studies and other local non- MRL studies (i.e., outcomes research). 

  • Delivers presentations to scientific leaders or decision makers including, but not limited to formulary presentations. 

  • Ensure 100% compliance with all applicable SOPs/GDPs, local and international rules and regulations.

Strategic Medical Support 

  • Draws up and implements the country medical affairs plan and the SL engagement plan for the relevant products and franchise, in line with the global MAP and the RDMA guidelines. Identifies the scientific issues and gaps to be covered to support sugammadex (Bridion) as “brand of choice” by the different customers and to ensure correct use of the product (Bridion). 

  • Gives medical input into the business plans, market access strategies, uptake of sugammadex in current local guidelines (when applicable), promotional materials and the selection of the most recent/appropriate claims, arguments, references to be used. 

  • Lead the outcomes research (OR) activities: gives medical input into the design of local or multi-country OR studies. This includes leading the internal medical approval procedure via the defined process and leading the selection of investigators.

Tactical medical support 

  • Includes but is not limited to collaboration with relevant functions, to provide the appropriate leadership in developing and/or the medical review and approval of promotional materials. 

  •  Provides input on/drafts local publications/abstracts/reports/medical reviews and, if applicable, medical training materials. 

  • Collaborates in the review of promotional materials and provides accurate and up-to-date medical information as needed. 

  • Reviews expert reports to support reimbursement or formulary listing processes and is involved in the development of value proposals (in close interaction with local market access team). 

  • Evaluates scientific value of projects for which support is requested from the company.

Medical training 

  • Delivers training to relevant internal (Sales Force, FLSMs and Marketing Franchise Managers) and external stakeholders to ensure that the required level of medical background on the company’s products (Bridion/Esmeron) are attained. 

  • Ensures additional trainings as required (continuous education) are planned and implemented. 

  • Ensures that Marketing and Sales colleagues are informed about summary of product characteristics (SMPC) variations (if applicable)




Education & Experience 

  • Physician with clinical training in anesthesiology and clinical knowledge and application of sugammadex /rocuronium bromide at the surgical setting. 

  • Should demonstrate a minimum of 3-5 years accomplishment in the anesthesiology field and surgical team’s interactions related experience. 

  • Previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry (of which 2-3 years in medical affairs) is a plus.
