Summary of the Role:


This key leadership role is responsible for developing and leading the strategic direction for all global marketing and technical services activities of the Global Marketing Companion Animal organization.  The incumbent is responsible for setting the long term strategy for the franchise, defining opportunities and gaps in the competitive landscape and partnering with R&D, Business Development and regions to define and prioritize competitive opportunities.  The AVP Global Companion Animal will have shared P&L responsibility for the CA brands worldwide and is involved in the planning and management of the CA business performance in close collaboration with the commercial leaders within the relevant markets (i.e. RVPs, GMs, BU Heads).


Key Responsibilities, may include, but not limited to:


  • Planning of global marketing strategy and overseeing the execution of companion animal products sales worldwide.
  • Create, develop and execute on short and long-term strategic companion animal marketing plans to ensure achievement of market leadership.
  • Direct accountability for collaborating with other leading markets/countries to determine, influence, and validate execution and resource allocation.
  • Conduct competitive analysis to support decision making with regard to customer insights, market growth, market trends and market share analysis.
  • Lead, motivate and develop the Global Companion Animal team consisting of global marketing global technical directors and regional marketing/technical directors. 
  • Creation of new global companion animal brands and their positioning. 
  • Understand the main drivers of customer behavior and trends and utilize this knowledge to enhance the marketing of the portfolio
  • Develop marketing activities to support and grow the existing companion animal portfolio.
  • Collaborate with R&D to drive focus and decisions for the development portfolio.
  • Proactive pursuit of business development opportunities to ensure the industry’s best pipeline and product portfolio.
  • Collaborate with Animal Health (AH) Manufacturing on long and short-term planning including capacity and allocation for key brands.
  •   Partner cross functionally with all business teams particularly regional and local markets, R & D, Business Development, AH Mfg. , Finance, Legal, Communications, IT, HR and other functional areas.
  • Partner with key markets to drive the top and bottom-line with a focus on the key brands.
  • Create marketing activities to support and to grow the existing portfolio.
  • Develop strategies for the launch of new products across the companion animal portfolio.
  • Identify emerging business and customer trends and develop strategies to drive portfolio.
  • Develop and monitor the Global Companion Animal Marketing budget and provide reporting and analysis














Background & Education:    

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related degree;   DVM and/or MBA preferred.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years industry experience including animal health sales and/or marketing including successful experience working in an international market (s).   
  • Minimum of five (5) years in leadership position including people management experience.
  • Must demonstrate strong knowledge of the Companion Animal business
  • Superior strategic thinking, enterprise-wide collaboration and business acumen skills
  • Deep knowledge of consumer marketing is preferred. 
  • Strong people and organizational leadership capabilities as well as global/cultural sensitivity
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully partnering cross functionally with all business teams particularly regional and local markets, R & D, Business Development, AH Mfg.  and other functional areas.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work in an international/multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to manage budget, resources and talent effectively,
  • Must have excellent presentations skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
