About Animal Health Global Supplier Management (AH-GSM)


 

AH-GSM is a department within MSD Animal Health.

AH-GSM is an organization of approximately 90 professionals with the common objective of compliant, competitive, and innovative acquisition of goods & services from leading suppliers and partners that deliver a competitive advantage to MSD Animal Health.


AH-GSM manages approximately $1.2B of third party spend through an organizational structure encompassing the global leverage of center-led categories and regional operating resources.



 

About The Position


 

The Procurement Specialist position will afford the successful candidate an opportunity join a collaborative team working on projects in a business unit that is known for driving world class innovation. The successful candidate will not be limited to one single category to manage. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the local implementation of strategic sourcing of manufacturing raw materials, consumables and capital equipment with the responsibility to ensure quality and compliant components/equipment are delivered on time to our manufacturing sites at the best overall cost and manages supplier relationships within the MSD Animal Health Division.  However, in keeping with our entrepreneurial organization, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to support global initiatives, work with multidisciplinary team, and lead cross department / cross functional initiatives. The Procurement Specialist will take an active role in the implementation of global procurement strategy, and definition of local procurement strategy, category management, contract management, risk management and stakeholder management, with a key focus on supplier value management of the suppliers.


 

Primary activities include, but are not limited to:



  • Sourcing of direct materials: primary, secondary and tertiary materials; and sterile manufacturing equipment: bioreactors, filling equipment, process vessels, etc.



  • Innovation – Be able to understand the technical requirements of operations and convert into strategic sourcing solutions.



  • Stakeholder Management - Provide the leadership, strategy and policy for the function by building a high performance engagement model with the business stakeholder.



  • Performance - Drive competitive sourcing events (RFIs & RFPs) and support vendor selection, commercial negotiation, and market awareness.



  • Procurement – responsible for contract management execution and delivery, KPI’s definition, stakeholders support on Procurement policies and processes



  • Supplier Value Management - Implement Supplier Value Management with the key suppliers to foster innovation, manage supplier performance, establish a Governance Model, and ensure continuous improvement



  • Miscellaneous – may be asked to support other areas of the business and tasks including but not limited to:




    • Indirect spend


    • SAP/SRM functionality


    • Small lab equipment


    • Vendor creation and data maintenance


 
Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:

 

B.A. or B.S. degree preferably in Business, Economics, Science or Engineering.


 

Required Experience and Skills:  

 



  • Pharmaceutical experience or working within a regulated business.


  • Experience working within a global environment.


  • Thrives in entrepreneurial environment. Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, negotiation, analytical, and project management skills. 


  • Has demonstrated leadership, problem solving, and team building abilities and sensitivity to diverse cultures.


  • Must posses the ability to work independently with minimal coaching. Able to be the one face of MSD Animal Health to the external party.

 

Preferred Experience and Skills:

 



  • Animal Health or Pharmaceutical industry experience.



  • Background in Procurement and / or background in sterile process manufacturing.



  • Managing multiple and complex projects requiring frequent communication, organizing/time management and problem solving skills.



  • Ability to translate strategic vision into actionable plans and manage the change required to execute.



  • Knowledge of technology sourcing activities including RFP development, bid response evaluation, and contract negotiations.



  • Negotiating and contracting skills essential; global experience.



  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability to deal with ambiguous and dynamic situation.



  • Ability to work with senior management with professionalism and discretion.



  • Experience working with internal legal operations.



  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a matrix / cross-functional environment.
