For our Biotech organisation in Oss (The Netherlands) we are currently recruiting a:

Director Supply Chain Management 

MSD Biotech
Within MSD Biotech, novel biologic active ingredients (“drug substance”) are manufactured, including medicines for fertility, diabetes, and oncology. We have global partners in the U.S., Europe and Asia Pacific to ensure medicines are delivered in a safe, reliable and cost-effective way. Within MSD Oss Biotech, there are two Integrated Process Teams (IPTs) – responsible for Upstream Processing (USP) and Downstream Processing (DSP) operations.  Specifically, the Upstream Processing IPT is responsible for cell culture and microbiology operations in two facilities, with bioreactors ranging in scale from 10 to 22,000 litters. In addition, the initial recovery operations are also conducted within the USP IPT, prior to shipment of biologic intermediates to the DSP IPT or to external partners.

The position
Reporting into the Biotech-Oss Plant Manager you will be responsible for Supply Chain Management, Warehouse & 3PL Management and SAP at the site. You will be accountable for achieving the process outcomes for demand management, planning scheduling, export, change management and warehouse management. You will provide tactical and strategic direction of Supply Chain aspects to the IPT  Leaders and represent the site towards external Supply Chain partners, ensuring that objectives are achieved at the lowest cost consistent with MSD’s requirements to ensure compliance and safety.

You will be responsible for talent management and development of the supply chain professionals at the plant and you will drive end-to-end accountability and connection to customers and suppliers to optimize supply chain performance with the IPT Leaders. You will report solid line report to the Plant Manager and you will be a member of the Site Leadership Team of MSD Biotech Oss. You will utilize the above site Supply Chain organization to ensure alignment of Supply Chain activities across the division.

Next to the responsibilities above, you will be responsible for:

Business Acumen and Financial Management
• Budget ownership, ensuring financial compliance;
• Create awareness of cost levers from Tier 5 (Site Leadership) to Tier1 (shop floor), driving productivity at all levels.

Strategic Thinking, Working across Boundaries
• Think and act beyond one’s silo;
• Bridge boundaries across teams, functions, divisions, geographies, external stakeholders, and customers;
• Practice and sponsor Inclusive Behaviours and mindsets in the flow of work;

Problem Solving
• Gather and analyse data and effectively responds to new, complex, or problematic situations; create solutions that drive value for MSD and our customers, incorporating innovative approaches;
• Change Execution Management, Level Load planning at all value stream nodes with rhythm wheels, Standardized work, Scientific problem solving.

Project Management
• Organize work efforts by prioritizing tasks, using resources optimally, establishing appropriate deadlines and ensuring on-time delivery and right first time by integrating with partner areas.

End-to-end Supply Chain/ Value Stream Knowledge
• Deeply understand Product and Business processes;
• Responsible for IPT renewal and at-site S&OP process, ensuring accurate demand forecasting for the site and IPT planning processes.
Supply Chain Metrics and Continuous Improvement
• Demonstrate a lean mindset and drive continuous improvement across the site

Supply chain and value streams;
• Use and sustain tier process and visual management systems for their area of responsibility.
• Provide teaching and coaching to build self-sustaining Lean capabilities;
• Lead Warehouse and logistics functions optimizing product flow, material movement and distributing using optimized transport lanes;
• Ensure sampling & weighing operation is compliant and guarantees continuous supply to customers;
• Lead site inventory management processes, IQV and discard reduction/avoidance planning, slow moving stock, inventory turns and hold time processes;
• Proactively manage component, raw material and WIP inventory to optimize warehouse capacity and resource utilization.

Supply Chain Risk and Compliance
• Understand and manage SOPs to ensure compliance to internal and external regulatory standards;
• Support any EHS or Quality Compliance regulatory audits;
• Ensure Safety and Quality policies and guidelines are followed by all colleagues within Supply Chain function.

Information Systems Knowledge
• Drive the utilization of SAP at the site, support site Inspection readiness with documentation and reports for the Site;
• Ownership of Site MRP, Site Master Scheduler, Site Planning processes and ensuring material availability for manufacturing processes (Raw Materials, Components).

Build Talent and People Management
• Utilize standard performance management and talent management processes;
• Build diverse talent within the workgroup with the capabilities necessary for future success;
• Demonstrate and promote end-to-end Lean mindset and behaviours;
• Ensure regular team communications using the Tier Process;
• Training certification and training records of employees working in Supply Chain Management.

Desired skills & experience
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree  in Supply Chain, Science, Engineering or other relevant discipline;
• At least 15 years of experience in more than one functional area, such as Manufacturing Operations, Quality, Technical Operations, Manufacturing Technical Support, Engineering, Production or New Products Planning;
• At least 5 years of experience in a comparable senior leadership role with responsibility for direct and indirect reports;
• Expertise with Biotech Operations in a manufacturing setting is a plus;
• SAP knowledge is required;
• Strong business collaboration through building positive working relationships across the Product Value Streams;
• In-depth knowledge of financial systems (budgets, expenses, product standards and variances.);
• LEAN mind-set and drive for continuous improvement;
• Experience in bridging boundaries across teams, functions, divisions, geographies, external stakeholders and customers;
• Demonstrated team leader, with track-record of building high-performing teams and developing talent;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (mandatory), Dutch language skills are a strong plus.
