Due to continued investment and expansion, MSD are undertaking a number of ,large and strategic capital projects in Ireland and across the EU. We are now hiring a Director, Project Management, (Vaccine & Biologics) within our Global Engineering Solutions Team to oversee projects initiating in Ireland.

This an exciting opportunity for experienced candidates who have a strong track record in successfully developing strategy and overseeing portfolios and projects in the biologics/vaccines business with significant budgets.

Reporting to the Area Director, Project Delivery , Global Engineering Solutions (GES), successful candidate will provide collaborative leadership and direction to global and regional stakeholders for lean project delivery and implementation of lean techniques and approaches.


  • Provide coaching with respect to lean project delivery fora portfolio of projects across a number of sites from business case development through completion of OQ involving the detailed design and construction of facilities, as well as project management services.

  • Represent GES delivery group as prime internal and external contact within EMEA and AP.

  • Develop, coach and retain a High Performance Organization that promotes employee development, deliver customer value, and demonstrate leadership capabilities.

  • Develop a learning and continuous improvement culture within the region as one of the key aspects of lean philosophy and safety culture.

  • Understand MSD's vision, business needs, initiatives, and strategy and be able to transform it into a mission/work plan for the people in the organization bringing a competitive advantage to the Company.

Primary Activities:

Leadership, Governance and Planning

  • Collaborate with Area Director, Technology Centre Leads and Executive Directors to delivery lean project requirements across a portfolio of projects assigned to them

  • Provide inward and outward looking focus to the organization .

  • Interface with Area Engineering Director, project managers and Technology Centre to develop best execution methodologies .

  • Communicate to the regions portfolio results and process improvement opportunities.

Implementation and Control 

  • Foster and mentor a World Class Safety Culture within the organization and with partner EPCM teams

  • Provide coaching on the use of Lean tools and techniques on specific projects.

  • Develop engineering and technical competency:

  • External technical benchmarking and keeping up on external technologies and capabilities, industry trends and issues

  • Development of appropriate metrics for monitoring and evaluation of GES Lean implementation.


  • Interface and align with key Service Providers / partners within an established panel of companies for Detailed Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management capabilities.


  • BSc in Engineering or equivalent

  • 10-15 years’ experience executing significant capital projects for healthcare manufacturing (vaccines/biologics) with different types of execution strategies.

  • Demonstrated leadership as agent for change, able to create and drive a vision for the organization and sought by other leaders, internally and externally, for expertise and advice

  • Ability to manage a portfolio of projects and demonstrated ability to achieve results

  • International experience and working with other cultures is seen as an advantage

The role will involve travel within EMEA and AP based on location of projects on an as needed basis
