MSD in Austria has a current opening for a Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL) to serve as the country scientific expert for our marketed and launch products in the Oncology therapeutic area under the guidance of the Medical Affairs Lead Oncology.

As an active member of the country Medical Affairs Department, you will be responsible for providing medical/scientific information to Scientific Leaders (SL) in the (Immuno-) Oncology field throughout Austria based on cutting-edge scientific exchange oriented towards the SL’s interests and needs.

As a 80-90% field-based medical professional, your practices and interactions with Scientific Leaders will be driven by professional needs, strictly non-promotional and based on the principle of a peer-to-peer scientific information exchange and communication.

Main accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the non-promotional exchange of peer-to-peer medical and scientific information creating disease area awareness and understanding of relevant scientific evidence with external stakeholders

  • Collects/ documents insights and develops an understanding of relevant scientific evidence in oncology through highly effective relationships with external stakeholders

  • Interacts with selected health care organizations & professionals in order to provide complete, accurate, balanced, scientifically rigorous and non-promotional medical and clinical information

  • Contact for first discussions for areas of investigator initiated research

  • Collaborates with study management personnel to identify potential investigators/sites for company sponsored clinical trials.

  • Represents the Medical Department at local or regional Medical Congresses & Symposia

  • Provides balanced and scientific information and training to colleagues

  • Participates in the development of the Medical Affairs Plan (MAP) and implements tactics align with the therapeutic area


  • Medical Degree, Pharmacist, PhD in a Life Science

  • Strong scientific baseline knowledge & passion for the Oncology disease area, understanding of clinical trials methods, implementation and interpretation of clinical data, sound scientific and clinical judgment, and eagerness to continue to learn more

  • Excellent awareness of the Austrian Oncology market as well as an established network of Scientific Leaders in the field

  • Strong, confident and engaging presentation skills

  • Willingness to travel throughout Austria 80-90% of the time

  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to function within a team environment

  • Strong customer facing, listening, and probing skills

  • A proactive "can do" attitude and passion for the therapeutic areas of interest

  • Professional proficiency in German, both verbal and written; additional strong English language skills are required

The minimum annual salary for this position is EUR 55’200 and varies according to the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
