We are looking for an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Senior Specialist for a recently acquisitioned site. Building, principle utilities and systems are existing and in the next 4-5 years innovative and state-of-the-art biological processes and processing equipment will be installed.

Reporting to the Director EHS, the Senior Specialist will be responsible for specific environmental health and safety programs and compliance for the Biologics manufacturing site Krems, Austria. Responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following main tasks:

  • Provide technical support and coordination in defining and implementing site EH&S systems for the site. This entails guiding and directing site support efforts, communicating to the site staff and sub groups and providing in addition to obtaining site EH&S inputs where required.

  • Prioritize EH&S related risks and develop and assist with implementing corrective action and preventive action plans. Monitor and communicate overall status of plans to Site Management.

  • Proactively identify improvement opportunities and collaborate with other EHS staff/ Engineering/and Operations personnel to leverage best practices and drive continuous improvement efforts

  • Ensures ongoing evaluation of changes in Safety Regulatory requirements. Develops and implements site positions and strategies to ensure 100% compliance with all current and future safety requirements as and when they arise.

  • Ensures that site systems are in place to maintain 100% site compliance with all Safety and Environmental Regulations and Programs and are aligned with global safety and environment expectations.

  • Establish and maintain excellent communication processes to ensure management, occupational health, and affected employees understand the workplace hazards, exposures, and accompanying risks, as well as the needed control strategies.

  • Provide technical support for new projects and modifications to ensure proper EH&S design review, as well as routine /maintenance evaluation after process / equipment installed / implemented.

  • Conduct independent inspections of facilities and practices, as required, for conformance with Site, Corporate and/or Statutory safety requirements. Ensures Operations are carried out in accordance with required standards of safety and in adherence to all relevant Company Policies and Procedures

  • Develop and implement effective EH&S-related training programs for both management and employees.


  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental or safety related technical discipline

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role within a highly regulated manufacturing environment

  • Previous experience in leading project teams with and/or without managerial responsibility is advantageous

  • Documented knowledge of EU and Austrian EHS laws and regulatory framework

  • Clear and recognizable understanding of the processes, equipment and methods associated with Biologics and Sterile manufacturing

  • Proven ability to develop sustainable cooperative professional relationships on all levels of the organization

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

  • High ethical standards, being a role model of business compliance and integrity

  • Proven ability to prioritize, focus on and obtain business results

  • Demonstrated analytical and logical problem solving abilities

  • Flexibility to perform multiple, complex tasks simultaneously to efficiently support the business

  • Fluency in written and spoken German and English

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Relevant professional certification(s)

  • Lean/Six Sigma experience desirable

  • Vision and sound judgment; ability to develop strategy and execute tactically

  • Robust skills interpreting and applying regulatory frameworks such as EU OSHA, OHSAS 18000, EPA, ISO, NFPA, GMP

The minimum annual salary for this position is EUR 50’000 and varies according to the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
