This role within the IT Department is to support Manufacturing systems at the Cramlington site and to ensure that they are developed, implemented and maintained within Corporate and Regulatory guidelines. The IT Business Analyst is an essential role in the realization of value through understanding of business and applicable business processes, followed by identification, implementation and realization of appropriate and right—sized IT solutions, with a focus on our Manufacturing & Distribution IT Projects, improvements and innovations to be realized will be a combination of globally and locally driven solutions, but always with a view to create an optimal value for the overall corporation. One will work on assigned initiatives and lead the projects from requirements, business case, planning, initiating development and driving implementation and support.



A key responsibility is to maintain compliance to MSD Corporate and Regulatory guidelines for manufacturing systems – this involves application of MSD system life cycle to automated manufacturing systems, production of validation documentation to support the implementation of new systems, and to execute appropriate periodic reviews.  The individual will also participate and support any audits, internal and external, where the afore mentioned systems and documentation would be reviewed.  These can be across all compliance areas – Quality, Information Security and Risk Management, etc.



As well as providing support to day to day operational activity, including provision of occasional out of hours support, the role will also liaise and manage external 3rd parties who provide systems and services to the site.



The individual will:


  • Embrace continuous improvement and innovation, develops an outside-in view based on cross-industry networking.

  • Supports the formulation, definition and documentation of business cases with associated drivers (return on investment), KPI’s and other appropriate measures/metrics for value realisation.

  • Based on business and IT knowledge, works with local and global IT partners in the initial development and assessment of solution alternatives ensuring alignment with global IT standards/architecture and adherence to ‘Lean’/Six sigma principles.  Develops detailed functional requirements specifications from high level business concepts.

  • Supports local (human) change management processes as needed to realize the value of IT innovations / improvements.



Whilst the role does not have direct people responsibility, the individual will be expected to mentor and support non-MSD colleagues.


  • Educated to BSc Degree or Master level with relevant experience in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.

  • At least 3 years of related experience in areas of business analysis or business process engineering work. Demonstrated experience and proficiency with one or more formal methodologies for business requirements analysis and business process engineering.

  • Functional Understanding of business functions and Manufacturing solutions/technologies (industry 4.0) is highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of Project and Software Development Life Cycle Methodologies.

  • Prior hands-on technical experience (developer, system analyst, etc.).

  • A background in the area of Business Intelligence and Analytics is preferred.

  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to work on own initiative to drive and deliver results & strong customer and results orientation.
