The Data Architect will provide technical data architecture and analytics expertise to the UK market and potentially the other key eight GHH markets (Key 6 + 3 region), while managing the data landscape as a ‘product’.  This critical role will deliver data architecture and analytics components for related projects and services in alignment with the overall Technology Architecture and Data Strategy while maintaining the integrity of the end-to-end platform data layer.  (S)he will be a key advocate for data governance practices, will have exposure to big data sets to enable machine learning techniques, while also ensuring optimal end user experience and visualisation.  This role requires a deep understanding of project management standards, both waterfall and agile, and solid functional knowledge of customer engagement, omni-channel marketing and commercial business processes.  Working on multiple waterfall and agile teams concurrently will require strong discipline to deliver both minimal viable products and sustainable solutions.



Areas of responsibility includes the following main tasks:


  • Quickly learn MSD Digital Platform and IT architecture.

  • Collaborate with business, digital leads, IT platform leads to understand strategy, translating functional & non-functional requirements into effective design & architectural guidance to articulate solution options, evaluation of tradeoffs, as well as influencing key decisions.

  • Define, develop and communicate information management standards relating to the location, media type and security requirements to facilitate efficient and secure management of all data elements, as well as understand market-specific regulatory and compliance needs relevant to digital capabilities in the pharma/healthcare industry.

  • Evaluate software and data providers to ensure interoperability within internal and/or external technology landscape.

  • Leverage existing and future IT and data platforms and deploy integrated solutions.

  • Generate framework concepts and coding definitions for local-specific enhancements to global platforms and provide guidance to market-based agile teams.

  • Ability to design quality solutions in both agile and scalable methodologies.

  • Contributes to platform solution working with cross regional teams (IT Hubs).

  • Contributes as part of market agile teams to the delivery of product releases by resolving design issues and questions during the delivery lifecycle.

  • Informed on market trends and new use cases for design, data models, and analytics and suggests evolution of the architecture according to these external and internal circumstances.


  • Masters or bachelors in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Business Management with minimum 4+ years of relevant experience in IT and/or Information Management role and 2+ years relevant experience in commercial (sales / marketing / digital) environment.

  • Experience in sales and marketing platforms development, as well as a good understanding of application development, maintenance and support for Enterprise Applications (Cloud/API/WebServices).

  • Ability to translate business requirements into data models and solutions in support of the commercial business.

  • Demonstrated experience developing cross system information flows and conceptual data models across a commercial organization.

  • Knowledge on data integration patterns and business intelligence concepts.

  • Has participated in, or be familiar with, Agile (Scrum) project methodology and practices.

  • SalesForce Advanced Developer Certification or willingness to lear.n

  • Project and Service Management skills: Prince2 Practioner, ITIL, SCRUM Master or similar skills.

  • Motivated team player with excellent interpersonal skills, actively collaborates and shares knowledge.

  • Strong analytical thinker and problem-solver with the ability to quickly process complex information and present it clearly and simply.

  • Ability to self-learn and develop business and technical knowledge quickly and apply these to business problems.

  • Ability to take code and data and turn it into logical patterns for analysis.

  • Comfortable working with quick turnaround times and deadlines.

  • Has generalized skills and the willingness to work with others in meeting business need.
