Executive Director - Global Sourcing APJ Job

The regional leader for Asia Pacific & Japan Global Sourcing & Procurement (GSP), together with other members of the Global Supplier Management Group, has the responsibility for building a high quality Sourcing capability and aggressively manage approximately USD$1.5-1.7 billion annual spend as part of MSD Supplier Management/Global Sourcing function. Mentors, coaches and leads multiple sourcing management programs locally and regionally and partners with GSP and business peers in developing and executing global strategies into the region. The incumbent will take an active role in development of all sourcing strategies and will be a member of multiple Regional and Divisional Leadership teams, representing the function, for Manufacturing, Global Human Health, Animal Health and Research & Development, or have a direct staff member on key Regional/Country Leadership teams. Globally represents region on Supplier Management Leadership Team, Source Recommendation Committee and Supply Strategy Councils. Role complexity across multiple countries (16+) and cultures and critical revenue growth markets for MSD with over 20% of MSD revenue based in the region.


 


Primary Activities include:


 



  1. Leadership – A key member of the senior leadership team in Supplier Management for MSD. Is accountable for the development of robust sourcing strategies that link to core business deliverables while leveraging the marketplace and supplier community. A primary focus on employee inclusion, engagement and delegation with accountability. Ensures regional inputs and supplier capabilities are represented. Ensures functional expertise is delivered regionally and within individual countries through the staff and team managed.

  2. Sourcing & Procurement Leadership - Provide day to day leadership, project focus and drive execution outcomes for the function. Build a high performance team that operates as a key internal business partner. Key member of the SRC and SSC leadership teams. Active engagement in Sustainability and Energy initiatives.

  3. Organizational Development – Build a core team of highly qualified professionals who have direct accountability for country spend management, Regional Categories and execution. Partners with functional areas such as Global Services (BSC, IT and IFM), Business Development and Manufacturing Division. Ensures employee engagement and enablement. Focused on High Performance Organization.

  4. Category Scope – Direct responsibility for a portfolio of categories and supplier relationships within Asia Pacific-Japan and is the regional point person for Global relationships with key strategic partnerships - which are complex and difficult to manage. Regional leadership on all category management initiatives and related Supply Strategy Council activities.

  5. Sourcing Management – To adopt, lead and implement Sourcing Management process rigor including gaining sponsorship and creating and leading cross-functional teams. Once approval is received for sourcing strategies, oversee the sourcing including RFx, negotiations and contracting to put in place the right suppliers and drive a commitment to sourcing rigor across the function.

  6. Strategy Creation/implementation – Create breakthrough strategies which both deliver quick wins and genuine innovative breakthroughs.

  7. Change Management – Adopts high quality change practices with customers and stakeholders and acts as leader by example and practice.

  8. Continuous Improvement – To ensure that every supplier relationship is set up for future continuous improvement and to lead and manage the measurement and review process that ensures delivery of on-going improvement. Internal to the function drives a Prioritize-Align-Simplify  mindset and execution.

  9. Stakeholder Management – To work in a way that positively engages the support of stakeholders using problem solving and proactive communication skills.To execute an Entity Management Program that builds a Sourcing Management Pipeline, ensures alignment with key stakeholders, and ensures compliance with existing sourcing strategies. Build on culture of Global Services and service mindset.

  10. Business Requirements/Cost Reduction focus – To have a keen insight and understanding of business requirements on a 1-3-5 year horizon and partners with GSP and business colleagues to drive an aggregate cost reduction of >25-30% over next 3-5 years.

Qualifications


  • Education: Graduate and post graduate education qualifications – Bachelor Degree required. Master degree highly preferred.

  • Engineering/Supply Chain or related discipline highly preferred.

  • Experience: >8 years line Sourcing & Procurement experience; practice and leadership of category management; in blue-chip organizations that should include experiences across a variety of supply markets. A proven leader of functional areas; clear results outcomes; multi-lingual and cultural experience desirable.

  • Coaching and Influencing: An experienced facilitator, influencer up in the organization, coaches/mentor of staff; strong people manager and leader.
    Strategic Analysis: Incumbent will possess high quality skills of strategic analysis and structured strategic thinking
