The department
The production facilities in Boxmeer are part of the global MSD Animal Health production network and manufacture and package animal health products according to GMP standards. MSD is working according to the MSD Production System (MPS), which is based on Lean Six Sigma and inclusion principles. The production organization in Boxmeer consists of several Integrated Process Teams (IPTs) and Centers of Excellence (CoEs).

The IPT (Integrated Process Team) Live Vaccines of the site Boxmeer comprises 3 production departments and support teams; Planning, Maintenance & Reliability, Improvement and Quality Control & - Assurance. The activities of this IPT cover production and supply of live and inactivated viral antigens, preparation of live bulk vaccines and aseptic filling and freeze drying live attenuated vaccines. The size of the IPT is approximately 180 FTE.

The IPT is looking for an Improvement Lead (1 FTE) to manage and support the Improvement team.

The position
The primary purpose of the position is to lead the IPT’s improvement team, to define improvement strategy for the IPT and lead the execution of plans to meet the IPT objectives. As Improvement Lead you will develop and transfer knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and Change Execution Management methods within and across the IPT. This also involves collaboration with peers on the site and other sites of MSD Network. Key tasks of the improvement team include: 1. teaching and applying scientific problem solving techniques, 2. stabilizing/standardizing processes, 3, improving product and process performance and 4. introducing new products and technologies. As an expert in Lean Six Sigma, Quality Management Systems and Change Management tools you will govern the improvement initiatives portfolio for the IPT Live vaccines. The Improvement Lead reports to the IPT Lead Live vaccines.

The Improvement Lead will be responsible for:

  • Leading and coaching of the Improvement team (12 FTE) and the daily Tier process

  • Define improvement strategy and tactical plans to support the IPT (long term) goals.

  • Government of the project portfolio and linking improvement initiatives to the site strategy.

  • Initiating and managing initiatives for stabilizing and improving (production) processes.

  • Assuring effective application of Lean Six Sigma and Change Management Tools

  • Supporting and facilitate in problem solving & risk assessments for projects.

  • Hands-on support to the business with problem solving techniques and facilitating cross-functional root cause investigations;

  • Contributing to a data driven decision making process and visualising problems, progress and results;

  • Monitoring and control of main quality systems of the IPT: deviation management, change control, complaints, Product Qualit Review.

  • Support IPT in performance review and prioritization of the IPT (metrics, corrective actions).


  • Masters degree in (bio)Chemistry/Process Technology, Engineering;

  • At least 7 years of relevant work experience in a comparable role;

  • Knowledge of (Bio) Process Technology, Operations Management is a pre;

  • Certified Black Belt (or equivalent): hands on experience with application of most of the following Lean and Six Sigma tools and techniques: standardized work, scientific problem solving (PDCA) value stream mapping, SMED, mistake proofing, 5S, Visual factory, DMAIC;

  • Strong project management skills, change management skills and proven ability to manage complex projects;

  • Demonstrated experience in the use of continuous improvement tools and methodologies;

  • Experienced in training, coaching and guiding people; 

  • Energetic and enthusiastic team player;

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to learn;

  • Strong communication skills and people-oriented coaching,

  • Results oriented and ability to drive change with ‘Can do’ mentality;

  • Excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English.
