Provide specialist veterinary expertise on all aspects of MSD Animal Health ruminant products and product markets. Actively contribute to sales support, product development and marketing within Great Britain.


To be a technical expert for the ruminant product portfolio in order to work with and support regional sales managers and their teams as well as having a good background knowledge of all MSD Animal Health ruminants products.


Priority is given to field based support in this position; however some limited support of product managers and their products will still be a requirement.


It is expected that approximately 80% of the role will involve technical support to regional sales teams, 20% market and marketing support including KOL management. The split of activities in the role may change depending on the business demands of the business unit.


In the fulfillment of this position it is expected that duties will require a reasonable level of attendance at evening and weekend meetings, which may in require overnight stays away from home.


  • To provide a support service to external customers of MSD Animal Health.  To include:
    • answering queries regarding products and large animal health/welfare in general
    • investigating the background behind pharmacovigilance reports in order to ascertain the level of product causality to be reported to the Veterinary Medicines Directorate.
  • To provide support to the regional sales managers and their teams with an aim to contributing to the sales activity.  To include:
    • calling on customers both independently and with Account Managers
    • delivering presentations to customers and their clients to detail MSD products and disease
    • support at a veterinary and farm level, including as a follow up to pharmacovigilance complaints, to aid in the improved and correct use of products.
  • To provide MSD Animal Health with comprehensive in-house technical training at various levels to ensure that all staff are trained to their necessary level on the large animal products and markets.
  • To provide external communication at a technical level for MSD Animal Health. 
  • To include:
    • technical representation at relevant meetings, congresses and exhibitions in order to promote the interests of MSD Animal Health amongst key industry influencers and opinion makers and to enhance the Intervet brand profile in the industry. 
    • presenting trials and providing written material or verbal presentations where required.
  • To develop networks of benefit to MSD Animal Health.  To include:
    • developing working relationships within the GB agricultural industry
    • development of relationships with key academic institutions and diagnostic companies, e.g. Universities, SAC, Biobest, VICs etc, in order to keep the company at the forefront of developing technologies. 

Major challenges of the role are:

  • To accurately perceive and assess strategic opportunities for MSD Animal Health to support sales activity and actively input into commercial development.

  • To provide a sound technical product servicing function, efficiently dealing with clients queries and complaints and balancing the best interests of MSD Animal Health with those of the client in the most cost-effective and yet ethical manner.

  • To achieve the most effective allocation of time to the various accountabilities within the job holders remit.

  • To ensure all company literature reflects a true and accurate technical representation of the products and activity of MSD Animal Health.  Promoting the company and its products to all customers in an ethical and balanced way.


A UK-recognised veterinary degree.

A veterinary or other relevant post graduation study such as a certificate or diploma.

Membership of Professional Bodies

Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)

Key Experience

At least two years’ experience with ruminants in a UK veterinary practice environment


  • Presentation of information in both oral and written form at various levels.
  • Involvement with policy decisions and changes.
  • Technical support or commercial experience in the veterinary pharmaceutical industry.
  • An understanding of the principals and concepts of marketing.
  • Organising and managing project groups.
