Position Overview - Basic Functions & Responsibility   

Under the general supervision of the Medical Affairs Director, the Sr. Specialist, Medical Affairs (Medical Manager (MM)) contributes his/her technical and scientific knowledge into Marketing and other strategic activities through involvement with different company areas: Marketing, Sales, Training & Development, DPOC System, Regulatory, Public Affairs and Legal, Pharmacovigillance and research. The incumbent will be appropriately trained and qualified which include medical qualification and possess a good understanding of the relevant therapeutic areas; marketing and regulatory knowledge is desirable.  Relationship and management skills are highly desirable qualities.


Primary Activities           


Activities related to Marketing:

•             Liaising and negotiating with national and international physicians to establish good relationship and modelling HCP perception about Merck products

•             Ensuring the marketing team is kept up to date with new scientific data. Detects, complies and analyzes all information on MSD and competitive products, and disease necessary for the Marketing and Sales areas

•             Organization and attendance national and international scientific events (meetings, congress and symposium). Cooperates in the organization of scientific meetings, sponsored or fully organized by MSD. Contacts and assists foreign and local speakers, as well as local speakers invited by MHHD or other subsidiaries.

•             Medical review / approval of promotional material and medical information & communication materials in general according to the actual SOP

•             Accountable for promotion, and follow up with the investigators, as well as for local evaluation of IISs.

•             Accountable for coordination of local studies (LCE / OR) planning and assignments.

•             Supporting key activities aiming to include Merck products into public and private formularies

•             Collaborate with scientific support to the development for the products Life Cycle Management strategies.


Activities related to Sales Force

•             Providing regular training and updating about diseases, and MSD products according to the structure of the country

•             Ensuring the sales force is kept up to date with scientific data. Provides or coordinates medical training and assistance to the Sales Force, both preparing medical bulletins and special presentations, and verifying the quality of their knowledge in the field.     

•             Delivering presentations at medical meetings and events     

•             Answering medical inquiries: Directly answer or certificating what the Medical Information Specialist will send as answer to HCP unsolicited questions.

•             Medical review / approval of training materials

•             Implementing activities to address physicians perceptions about MSD product and strategies

•             Providing medical support to elaborate unbranded educational materials to general population


Activities related to Medical Department

•             Acting as liaison between MKT and Clinical Research staffs. Identifies researchers with high degree of proficiency in the several medical specialty fields and institutions with adequate technology and human resources, who might be useful to perform awareness campaigns or clinical studies.

•             Provide input into appropriate prioritization of Merck studies and sites selection, consistent with local strategy, balancing the short term and long term needs of local subsidiary. Coordinates local clinical studies planning and assignments, and IISP

•             Medical review / approval of product labels

•             Providing medical information to Regulatory, Market Access, Legal, Public Affairs among others who required such information., Providing medical support to Pharmacovigilance area concerning adverse experiences

•             Maintains and strengthens a fluent relationship with medical and official, at a level of cooperative and scientific interchange.

•             Performs a bibliographic reading and selection of clinical studies from international publications or from other bibliographic systems, in order to maintain an updated and complete database for appropriate medical information.

•             Elaborate the Medical Action Plan (MAP) for the assign products align with marketing strategy

•             Deliver and implement high level non promotional “Medical Own Events” related to a therapeutic area in order improve

•             MSD as scientific company with the science behind the products.


Activities related to Corporate Activities

•             Comply the corporate policies, procedures and quality standards

•             For delegation, approval physicians participation at scientific events to ensure compliance with corporate policies

•             Providing medical support upon request to ONLINE activities



  • Graduation: Medical Doctor degree

  • Language: Fluently English and Portuguese. Spanish will be a plus.


Required Experience:

  • Previous experience as Medical Manager resposible for Oncology or

  • Medical Manager responsible for any Specialty Care divisions, but with academic background in Oncology.
